Questions and answers on Sanotint Hair Colours:

1. Is it possible to colour grey hair?

Depending on the hair structure and/or the desired colour, a Sanotint product  already begins to cover grey hair from its first application. It is important to remember that some shades, especially red, become more vivid and shiny on grey hair than on dark hair (see instructions for the choice of colour, especially for grey hair on page 30). If you want to obtain a more natural result, use additionally a colour with a more natural shade.

2. Is it possible to colour hair by making it lighter?

Generally Sanotint Hair Colours do not actually lighten the colour of the hair,

they add to it. In order to obtain a lighter colour than the one currently in

use, you first need to decolour the hair with the lightening kit and then apply

Sanotint Hair Colour. In case you want to lighten your hair up to 2-3 degrees,

in alternative to the Lightening Kit you can use the colours no. 87 and 88. As

they contain more Hydrogen Peroxide (approx. 6%) we recommend to not

use them on bleached or damaged hair.

3. What is the difference with pure vegetal colourings?

Sanotint hair colours are easily applied after simply mixing the dye with the

fixing product. The product should be left on for 30 minutes. The result of

the application is permanent; the colour does not fade or wash out. A broad

range of colours is available.

Instead, vegetal colours need to be left on the hair for a time-period ranging

from 30 minutes (fair hair) to two hours (dark hair). Moreover, the vegetal

powder must be mixed with boiling water.

4. How are Sanotint Hair Colours different from

Sanotint dyes are probably the only ones that contain Golden Millet (rich in

Silicon Acid). They are a hybrid between vegetal and synthetic colourings.

The percentage of synthetic colourings is only 1% while synthetic dyes

contain a lot more. Furthermore, Sanotint dyes do not contain Ammonia.

Since the Hydrogen Peroxide content is very low (so as not to damage the

hair) it is generally not possible to achieve a lighter result than the existing

shade.

5. Can hair be damaged by colouring?

Colouring causes minimal damage to the hair, but it should be remembered

that Sanotint hair colours contain precious, protective ingredients (Golden

Millet, Calcium Pantothenate, Birch, Grape seeds, Biotin) to prevent any kind

of damage to the hair and to make it shiny, smooth and easy to brush.

6. Can we apply a Sanotint Hair Colour to lightened

hair?

Of course! After applying the lightener, we advise you to choose a fairer

colour than the desired shade, as lightened hair tends to absorb the colouring

better and this may lead to a darker result.

7. Can we apply Sanotint Hair Colours on permed hair?

Of course! However, permed hair absorbs the colour more easily- thus resulting

in a darker shade. Colouring slightly weakens the perm. We therefore

advise you to choose a lighter shade and to use smaller rollers.

8. Can we apply a perm after colouring with Sanotint

Hair Colour?

Yes, but bear in mind that the perm gives the hair colour a fairer and reddish

look (because of the breaking up of opaque colourings), while it is possible

that particularly sought-after shades of red may come out lighter. Therefore,

the correct sequence is always: first the perm, then the colour.

9. Can we mix different shades together?

Yes, no problem. In fact, this is highly advisable when a touch of red is required

in chestnut coloured hair.

If you wish to give a shade of red to blonde hair, we advise you to mix, for

instance, a golden shade (base) with a little red so as not to make the red too

intense. Imagination has no limits!

Do not mix the Sanotint Classic colours with those of the Sanotint Light line.

If you want to have a bigger variety of shades you may create your personal

tone using first one colour and then another. Mix number 87 and 88 only

with 76,79, 85 and 86.

10. And what if I am not sure I will like the colour?!

To ensure the desired colour meets your expectations, we advise you first to

try it out on a small lock of hair (the fairest possible or one with the largest

quantity of grey). The most natural result can be achieved by using a shade

which is not too dissimilar from the current one (one or two shades). Moreover,

you can apply some fair (Sanotint Lightening Kit) or dark highlights, to

give sun-kissed tones to the hair and create varying shades of colour.

11. Can we store the products once opened?

Certainly! There is no need to use the entire amount of colour and fixative

at one time if, for instance, you only need a small amount to touch up hair

growth or to apply some highlights. Please bear in mind that colour and fixative

must be mixed 1:1 and that once opened, packets must be closed well. It

is advisable not to keep the remaining product for too long.

12. How and why should we apply hair conditioner?

Hair conditioner contains protective substances to give increased care and added

glow to the hair and to make it easy to brush after colouring. Conditioner

is applied at your discretion also after each shampoo. Since the conditioner

needs no washing off, a small amount is more than enough. If the hair feels

too heavy, you can mix the conditioner with a little water before spreading

it over the hair.
